Sebuah penelitian terbaru menyatakan bahwa musik dapat sebabkan depresi pada remaja apabila dikonsumsi secara berlebihan.

"Bentuk media lain seperti televisi dan film tidak memiliki dampak langsung, tapi mendengarkan musik berhubungan erat dengan depresi, salah satu penyakit mental yang serius," ujar Dr Brian Primack, Profesor Kedokteran di Pittsburg University.
"Sampai saat ini, belum jelas apakah penderita depresi yang mulai mendengarkan musik sebagai pelarian atau mendengarkan musik dalam jumlah yang banyak dapat sebabkan depresi. Yang pasti, penemuan ini mampu membantu dokter dan orang tua untuk menyadari hubungan antara media dengan depresi," jelasnya. Seperti yang dikutip dari The Register, Rabu (6/4/2011).

“Penting juga diketahui kalau membaca mampu kurangi kemungkinan depresi. Hal ini cukup membantu, mengingat kini minat membaca buku semakin berkurang," tambah Primack.

"Studi ini melibatkan 106 partisipan remaja, yang 46 di antaranya didiagnosa menderita depresi.
