Amaizing... Ancient city of the Maya found in the Guatemalan

Ancient city of the Maya, Holtun, or Head of Stone, which was hidden for centuries found in the Guatemalan rain forest.

According to a study presented earlier this month, a three-dimensional maps can show hundreds of buildings covered by trees. Similarly, as quoted from the New Kerala, on Friday (29/04/2011).

Local residents around the site actually already know that there is a large building is hidden behind the forest, but only now that the archaeologists can discover the city.

By using GPS and advanced electronic devices, archaeologists managed to track the location of the city and a pyramid with seven levels.

Lead researcher Brigitte Kovacevich, an archaeologist at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, warned that some buildings used as temapt burial of kings.

"Often archaeologists find largest pyramid or temple to find the tomb of the king, but in the era of 600 to 300 years BC, the king is not the center of culture, so maybe he was buried in the common house," said Kovacevich.

"That's what causes many kings from the time of the escape from the archaeologists," he added.

Ancient city of Head of Stone or Holtun, which measures one kilometer long and 0.5 kilometers wide, becoming one of the Mayan cultural center, and a place of living than 2 thousand people.

But this time, the building is buried by soil and trees, until almost hard to see with the naked eye.

The researchers hope to begin to explore and examine the building, including the pyramid at the center of the city.
